Product Description

The KhoiSan Karoo Conservancy (8 000 ha), for the Karoo Hippo, is between Colesberg and Hanover. We are 8 km off the N1 highway and perfectly situated between Cape Town and Johannesburg, Upington (Kalahari) and PE or the Garden Route. This makes us the perfect halfway point in South Africa.

We pay special attention to nature and the outdoors. You can explore the central Karoo using us as a base. We have the Seekooi (Hippo) Valley Meander which connects New Bethesda to Hanover and Colesberg by dirt road. These roads can be enjoyed by car as well as on mountain bikes. Visit Orania and the Van Der Kloof Dam. Go to see a Suricate Colony responding to the farmers calls (A suricate or meerkat is a small mongoose found in Southern Africa). Local tours and activities are listed on our website and we all work together in communal accord. Our onsite activities include early morning birding drives, walks, horse riding, clear skies and bright stars for stargazing from our star deck, hippo drives, KhoiSan etchings, mountain bike trails, a swimming pool and more.

We have realized that there are an increasing number of people who would prefer a more rustic camp idea, especially when spending more time in the area. The Karoo Gariep Tent sleeps 4 guests in 2 separate tent compartments. The tent is well furnished with a double bed in the one compartment and 2 single beds in the other; the tent even features full floor carpeting; with the ablution facilities a mere 30 meters away! The tent is pitched in the New Holme Guest House garden and has some privacy from the rest of the lodge.

You can book meals at New Holme.
