In a setting that could best be described as in equilibrium with nature, the first thing that strikes you upon arrival is the genuineness and sincere hospitality of Niel and Erna Taljaard, owners of this working farm on the Wild Coast.

FARM COTTAGE

OppiePlaas Haga Haga Farm Cottage, our self-catering standalone garden cottage which overlooks the farm pond, offers the following:

Living area with lounge seating for four as well as a dining table and chairs for four, TV and air-conditioning
Well-equipped kitchen
Main bedroom with a double bed
Smaller bedroom with a bunk bed for two
Bathroom
Relax with a sundowner while watching the sunset over the pond. Socialise afterwards while preparing the braai in the well-equipped braai area.

Low season: R950 per night. (Minimum 2 nights.)
High season (Easter & December school holidays): R1590 per night. (Easter: Minimum 4 nights; December school holidays: Minimum 7 nights.)
R100 per night surcharge for bookings less than the minimum number of nights.

BED AND BREAKFAST
We have two outstanding, newly-built double en-suite bedrooms that offer spectacular views. Observe game roaming the countryside closer by with the ocean creating the perfect backdrop in the distance. Available on a bed and breakfast or dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

CAMPSITE
Bring your own tent. Electricity and shared ablution facilities are available.

OPPIEPLAAS FARM RESTUARANT

Drinks and meals are served in the OppiePlaas Haga Haga Pub and Restaurant.

There is often a debate amongst patrons who return time and again to OppiePlaas’s Pub and Restaurant on why they do so. Some say that they come back to enjoy the personal and warm hospitality that Niel and Erna as owners of the farm and the restaurant offers. Others say that they come back for the signature steaks and the finest home-cooked meals. City and town folk claim that they come to enjoy the tranquility of the farm and its surroundings.

But, in the end, when meeting in the warm ambiance of this rustic and homelike setting, locals and holidaymakers, strangers and friends alike agree that this pub and restaurant stands out as a destination where one can still enjoy a real meal with hints of grandma’s home cooking, where friends meet to strengthen existing friendships and where strangers soon become friends. A timeless place to return to.

The lamb and chicken served in the restaurant are free-range meat from the farm, as is the A-grade beef which is matured to perfection in the farm’s cold rooms. The mouth-watering hamburger patties, the selection of scrumptious pies, as well as the variety of pizzas – all available for on-site consumption or takeaway – are carefully prepared in the farm’s kitchen according to proven family recipes, and with honest-to-goodness ingredients. This even applies to the must-have rusks that guests munch with their morning coffee!

During Easter and Christmas holiday seasons, and over selected long weekends, the pub and restaurant which offers seating for up to 30 guests, is open seven days a week from 10:00 until late. Sit inside, or enjoy your meal outside in the shade of magnificent Flamboyant trees in the well-maintained park-like garden with its farm atmosphere, while keeping an eye on the children running freely, playing on the jungle gym, or bottle-feeding hansie lambs.

Apart from meals, guests can also watch sport on widescreen television or enjoy cocktails and craft beer in our intimate pub or outside in the garden.

OppiePlaas Haga Haga Pub and Restaurant also caters for theme-events such as Mothers’ Day, Valentine’s Day & Christmas luncheons, as well as special events such as craft beer and wine tastings, and special menu evenings.

NATURE DICTATES THE MOOD
Settle down, and soon you’ll start to wonder whether these folks have managed to create a setting where the landscaping around the homestead extends into nature, or whether it’s actually nature that extends right up to the cozy veranda – OppieStoep – where many a jubilant occasion is celebrated.

A word of advice, though. Those booking accommodation with us, or planning to celebrate their special event at OppiePlaas, should take into account some extraordinary add-ons which come as part of the deal and, believe it or not, at no extra cost! One of these is the nearness of the lush and green hills close by that form a backdrop to and natural décor for your function. And don’t be surprised if your guests are mesmerized by a lone fish eagle soaring in the distance as if keeping watch over what is special for you at that moment.

As if this is not enough, the undulating landscape in the opposite direction could have continued forever, if it wasn’t for the ocean in the distance jealousy insisting to be a part of this picture-perfect panorama.

A WORKING FARM
But add-ons do not only come in the beauty of the surroundings. Being a working farm, OppiePlaas offers the bonus of an authentic farm experience as guests are able to participate in the day-to-day farming activities. Accompany or observe the herdsmen taking the sheep out into the veld to graze, lend a hand when it comes to taking care of the chickens, assist with feeding the bottle-fed lambs, even get your hands dirty while helping to harvest the vegetables for supper that evening.

A PHOTOGRAPHER’S DREAM
If possible, plan your event to coincide with the setting of the sun. Observe how the changing light playfully covers the surrounding veld in tints ranging from burnt orange to vivid yellow, while the blue sky gradually changes from bright blue to a deep copper. Invite your photographer along to watch this pageant from the farm pond as an observation point. With wild geese graciously floating in the reflection of the setting sun, the camera won’t stop clicking away to capture and embrace the slowly-changing ambiance.

If you’re lucky, watch the full moon covering the surrounding landscape with its soft glow after night-time has fallen. At OppiePlaas we believe that this is to guard over us and to make sure that everything remains in place for the sun to rise to yet another perfect day the next morning.
